H&S Hybrid Work Policy

The School of Humanities and Sciences is committed to supporting Stanford’s research, teaching,  and operations through flexible and effective work arrangements. As we continue to evolve our approach to hybrid work, we recognize the value of both remote work flexibility and the benefits of on-campus presence. Specifically, the benefits of on-campus presence include strengthened collaboration, spontaneous problem-solving, and community building that supports our shared work.

These updated expectations build on the foundation of our existing effective hybrid work practices while supporting campus-based research and teaching operations.

Shared Principles
Our approach to hybrid work is guided by the following principles:

  • Supporting Stanford’s research and teaching mission through appropriate on-campus presence
  • Fostering collaboration, innovation, and community within and across teams
  • Maintaining reasonable consistency in expectations across the school
  • Allowing for local flexibility where appropriate to meet operational needs and role requirements
